River and Stream Remediation Using the SDOX System
The Supersaturated Dissolved Oxygen Injector (SDOX™) uses a patent pending
technology for delivering dissolved oxygen (DO) to water. The benefits of the
SDOX over current technology are lower operating costs, far greater flexibility
over where and when dissolved oxygen is delivered to any point in the water body
and precise control of oxygen concentration in the water being treated.  The
SDOX is an ideal solution for delivering dissolved oxygen to rivers and streams to
remediate impacts from point and non-point pollution, provide refuge for critical
species and enhance ecological services.
The benefits of the SDOX over current oxygenation/aeration technology include:
Rapid delivery of dissolved oxygen in solution, providing immediate
increases in bio-available oxygen;
Portability options – the system can be trailer mounted and operated with
portable generators and liquid oxygen to provide treatment at remote
locations;
High efficiency DO delivery resulting in low operating costs;
Increased flexibility over where DO is delivered so critical locations can be treated;
No bubbling or degassing; the DO delivered to the water remains
bio-available;
The SDOX can be used as emergency response to spills to provide excess
oxygen and prevent fish kills;
The SDOX can be used for long-term treatment to provide excess oxygen
for natural removal of organic pollutants.
The SDOX pumps a side-stream of water supersaturated with oxygen to the water
being treated. Unlike typical side-stream systems that increase side-stream DO
to 50-60 mg/L, the SDOX provides 310 mg/L of DO or greater. This side-stream
is then injected at a high velocity into an entrainment tube that can be located
anywhere within a water body. The result is that the supersaturated side-stream
is nearly instantaneously mixed with the river water.
The overall DO
concentration is then below saturation and oxygen gas is prevented from leaving
solution in the form of bubbles. This innovative process results in near 100%
efficient utilization of oxygen. In other words, the oxygen gas entering the SDOX
is delivered in dissolved form to the river; virtually no oxygen is lost to the
atmosphere.
